Neon Quakes

dynamic data visualization using 3D voronoi shapes to represent earthquakes on the earth surface.

Data visualization, ITP, Fall 2009 | Collaboration with Angela Chen

A processing sketch developed with Angela Chen as part of Visualizing Data class at ITP. We designed an algorithmic drawing tool that used voronoi geometry to draw a series of cells based on data gathered from the National Earthquake Information Center.

Each voronoi cell was drawn according to a corresponding x-y-position based on the epicenter's latitude and longitude coordinates. The height of the cell's top point also changes according to the magnitude of the earthquake.
